Bonavita
Bonavita is located in Faro Superiore, on the hills near Messina, in the north-eastern part of Sicily. Here the steep terraces create a sort of natural amphitheater with a view of the Strait of Messina and the vineyards are surrounded by a forest of centuries-old oak and chestnut trees. Only the three native varieties of Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Nocera are cultivated with plant ages ranging from 10 to over 80 years.

The History
In 2004, after a five-year degree in Agriculture in Bologna, Giovanni Scarfone returned home. The father, who retired early, now dedicates himself to agriculture and obtains the DOC Faro recognition for an old vineyard inherited from his grandfather. Together they carried out their first harvest in 2004, transforming the home garage into a winery and recovering artisanal tools. In 2005 Sanny, Giovanni’s partner, also joined.
Terroir & Winery
The winery is located in the village of Faro Superiore in the Peloritani mountains, on that strip of land closed between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Ionian Sea, which is reflected in the Strait of Messina, a place rich in history and legends. It extends over three hectares of terraced vineyards, located between 250 and 300m above sea level. The processing is completely natural, both in the vineyard and in the winery, where the wines do not undergo any stabilization or clarification process.
