The Castello Vicchiomaggio winery has always produced wine directly at the castle, located on the top of a hill overlooking the Val di Greve, between Florence and Siena. Its owners, John and Paola Matta, are strongly committed to preserving this ancient tradition which has roots dating back centuries.

The History
In 1970, after three years of training at the School of Viticulture and Oenology of Alba, John Matta began his career at Castello Vicchiomaggio, bringing with him his experience in the wine trade sector in the United Kingdom. Here, he initiated an innovative replanting program, preferring wines made from young grapes and a sparing use of oak, preferring instead traditional oak barrels.
Terroir & Winery
The region features a distinctive terroir with a Mediterranean climate and soils typically rich in clay and large stones known as Galestro. Great care is dedicated to the orientation of the vineyards, all facing south to maximize sun exposure throughout the day.
