Since 1928 the Cavallotto family has cultivated the vineyards of the Bricco Boschis hill, a cru in the municipality of Castiglione Falletto, a municipality renowned for the elegance of its Barolos.
In 1928 Giacomo Cavallotto, great-grandfather of the current owners Alfio, Giuseppe and Laura, acquired the entire Bricco Boschis hill, starting the family story. In 1946, as soon as the war ended, Cavallotto was the first grower in the area to make wine from his own grapes. And so in 1948 Olivio, Giacomo’s nephew, put the first Barolo Cavallotto label on a bottle.
The climate is characterized by snowy, harsh winters and hot, dry summers, interspersed with mild springs and autumns. More than half of the vineyards are cultivated with Nebbiolo da Barolo (17 hectares). Dolcetto and Barbera occupy approximately 5 hectares; the remaining vineyards are cultivated with Freisa, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Grignolino.
