Domaine Arretxea, created in the 1990s by Thérèse and Michel Riouspeyrous, draws inspiration from the ancient and noble history of the Irouleguy vineyard. Educators and teachers, having returned to their home village, Thérèse and Michel have taken over the small family farm to focus on a vineyard and wine project. The installation of the systems took place in 1989, the development of the winery for the first harvest in 1993; in organic cultivation from the beginning, then in Biodynamics since 1998.

Terroir & Winery
The Arretxea estate is managed using organic (certified since 1998) and biodynamic farming methods. So no chemical fertilizers, no herbicides, no insecticides and other synthetic chemicals. Fermentations are carried out using native yeasts or yeasts selected from a biodynamic estate, depending on the vintage. Looking ahead, the winery is developing a process of selecting indigenous yeasts on its land, in order to improve the control of fermentation while maintaining the originality of the terroir.
