The Domaine de l’Ile is located in Porquerolles, a charming paradise facing the Hyères promontory, in the heart of Provence. This island is part of the Parc National de Port-Cros et Porquerolles and is characterized by an uncontaminated natural environment. Apart from the small port village, the island is almost uninhabited and is covered with dense vegetation of maritime pines, olive trees and shrubs typical of the Mediterranean scrub, in addition to the presence, of course, of vines.
The island was purchased by François-Joseph Fournier in 1910. After World War II, the French state acquired most of the property from the heirs, with the exception of Lélia Fournier’s share. The latter has chosen to conserve its lands and replant vineyards in the Brégançonnet plain. His son Sébastien continued this work, developing the estate with new plants and improving the quality of the wines until 2019, when he sold the property to the Maison Chanel.
The vineyards are located in the areas of Notre-Dame, to the east of the island, and Brégaçonnet, to the west. They grow on shale and clay soils, surrounded by the uncontaminated nature of the Parc National de Port Cros. The climate is mild, typically Mediterranean, refreshed by sea breezes and with exceptional brightness, all elements that give the wines a unique identity profile.
