Domaine des Roches Neuves is located in the heart of the Loire Valley, in Varrains, 5 km from Saumur. The vineyard, very fragmented, is made up of 61 plots that extend over 26 hectares in the Saumur Champigny denomination, for red wines, and Saumur, for white wines.

The products of Domaine des Roches Neuves

The History

Created in 1850 by the Duveau family, the estate was taken over by Thierry and Marie Germain in 1991. Initially covering 12 hectares of Cabernet Franc, in 1996 the estate expanded by adding 2 hectares of Chenin and 8 hectares of Cabernet Franc. In 2012 the vineyard was enriched with new plots: Clos de l’Echelier and Les Mémoires. At the same time, at the end of the nineties, the estate was entirely converted to organic farming and, at the beginning of the 2000s, to biodynamic agriculture.

Terroir & Winery

Limestone is the strength of this terroir; this porous rock stores moisture to redistribute it during periods of severe drought. Added to this is the influence of the Loire, its tributary and the Fontevraud forest, which creates a real microclimate. The alternation of limestone, sandy and clay soils represents a diversity of terroir that offers infinite possibilities with the two unique grape varieties present on the estate: Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc.
