The History
An architect by profession, Elena Walch married the heir of one of the oldest winemaking families in the region, introducing new ideas of modernization to the traditional winery. Today, Julia and Karoline Walch, the fifth generation of the family, lead the winery. The winery, with over 150 years of history, was originally dug into the natural stone subsoil, anticipating the idea of environmental sustainability dear to the winery, and subsequently becoming one of the most beautiful private winerys in Alto Adige.
Terroir & Winery
The estate extends over 60 hectares, divided into numerous parcels among the most suitable in the area. Two historic vineyards stand out, among the most prestigious in the region: Castel Ringberg, located at 330 meters above sea level near Lake Caldaro, dominated by sand, clay and limestone rubble, while Kastelaz is located above Termeno at 360 meters, beautifully exposed to south and on rocky granite and porphyry soil.
