The Calabrian Costa Viola is a terraced coastal area, characterized by steep slopes, where the so-called heroic viticulture is practiced. The centuries-old dry stone walls (armacìe) along the 20 km of coast overlooking the sea give the name to the I.G.T. Costa Viola red, produced in only 8,000 numbered bottles by the coop. agricultural “Enopolis Costa Viola”, which includes 98 small producers in the area.

The History
Generations of “heroic winemakers” have worked in this area in extreme conditions and safeguarded the fragile terraced territory through the maintenance of the centuries-old “armacìe” (dry stone walls). Enopolis Costa Viola is a cooperative created to protect, safeguard and raise awareness, since 2006, of the product of this precious and fragile land and the heroic work of its winemakers.
Terroir & Winery
The 98 members cultivate the native Prunesta, Malvasia Nera, Nerello and Gaglioppo vines on 24 hectares of the Calabrian coast. The grapes are then vinified in the Casa Vinicola Criserà di Catòna in Reggio Calabria, which from the beginning has made its facilities available according to the traditional production specifications of the cooperative.
