The Gaja winery has always been recognized as one of the symbolic names in the production of Barbaresco and a historical name for Italian wine in the world; Angelo Gaja undoubtedly represents a living legend of Piedmontese viticulture.
The Gaja winery was founded in Barbaresco in 1859; if Giovanni Gaja was responsible for the idea of bottling only the best vintages and selling the others in bulk, the great success of the winery is above all thanks to his son Angelo, who in the 1960s, convinced of the potential of the Piedmontese territory and the quality of the its wines, has definitely aimed high. The innovations implemented in winemaking and the introduction of barriques alongside the traditional large barrels have marked the extraordinary history of Gaja and Piedmontese winemaking.
The Gaja vineyard extends over an area of 100 hectares in the Langhe. This area is protected by the Alps and benefits from the climatic influence of the Ligurian Sea. The hilly orography, with altitudes between 250 and 330 meters above sea level, offers ideal terrain. Here, the Nebbiolo grape is the main protagonist, giving life to the two renowned denominations of Barolo and Barbaresco.
