Gareth Belton and his wife Rainbo are two marine biologists who are among Australia’s leading experts on algae. Their love of wine and farming eventually drew them away from academic life. The assiduous attendance of the Adelaide Hills area and its winemakers led them to produce the first three barrels of wine at Basket Range in 2013; today they cultivate 5 plots and produce around 25,000 bottles a year; the vineyards are 40/90 years old and are located at 620 meters above sea level; Spontaneous whole-cluster fermentations give life to a few notable examples.
