Dronero is a small municipality in the province of Cuneo which is located at the entrance to Val Maira, an uncontaminated Alpine valley, far from the tourist onslaught that the Alps have seen in recent decades. Here Giuseppe Mauro carries out a small production of the so-called “Nebbiolo di Dronero”, an ancient biotype of Chatus grown on the Italian and French sides of the Occitan Alps.

The History
In 1924 Osvaldo Mauro, a winemaker in the Langhe, moved to Dronero, at the foot of the Occitan Alps, and opened a new winery with a couple of hectares of vineyards. Today, after a century, it is the children Giuseppe and Rossana who continue the tradition, with total dedication to native and rare vines.
Terroir & Winery
The main production has always been centered on Dronè, produced from ungrafted vineyards located near the winery in Dronero, which boast the presence of many centuries-old vines that survived phylloxera. Another part of the vineyards is located at the top of the valley, beyond Svolto, at around 1000m above sea level, where Giuseppe is bringing some forgotten white grape varieties back to life.
