The History
The Monte Maletto adventure began in 2015, when Gian Marco Viano took over management of some vineyards in Carema. After a career as a sommelier in famous restaurants, including starred ones, he made the decision to create his small artisanal production, on less than two hectares, in an area as suitable as it is little-known.
Terroir & Winery
In the alpine context of Carema the climate is decidedly cool, with significant day/night temperature variations; the soil is the stony one of the slopes of the Alps, and the traditional dry stone walls that support the terraces of the vineyards were built with those stones. Gian Marco trains the vines in a pergola, having them supported by stone columns which also act as thermoregulation for the vineyard, releasing the heat accumulated in the sun in the dark. Natural, as well as heroic, viticulture and winemaking without invasive interventions.
