Vermentino Maremma Toscana DOC 2020
11,90 €
In the nineties, in the Tuscan Maremma, when the trend in the wine world was pushing for an increase in planting density, for controlled irrigation and for the choice of international varieties, Montecivoli was born, a small winery in Magliano in the province of Grosseto, which instead it remains steadfast in tradition, with selective thinning, without irrigation, and by planting Sangiovese and a small quantity of Alicante.
In the first decade of the twentieth century, Montecivoli was a sharecropping farm of the Tenuta Vivarelli Colonna, a family protagonist in the transformation of the wooded area of Magliano in Tuscany. In 1992, Decio Oberholtzer and Francesco Prosperetti acquired the winery, starting the environmental redevelopment with the reforestation of 15 hectares. The old olive grove was recovered and new vineyards planted, always with an immediate commitment to organic farming.
The planting of the vineyards began at the end of the nineties and within five years 7 hectares of vineyards were planted for the production of DOCG Morellino di Scansano and Vermentino grapes. The vineyards have traditional planting layouts, with a maximum of 3,500 plants per hectare, without irrigation. The absence of irrigation allows us to have a wine capable of expressing the characteristics of the vintage, which is different every year depending on the progress of the season.
