Montonale is the result of a long family tradition linked to agriculture, which has roots in the hills of Desenzano del Garda. At the beginning of the 20th century, Francesco Girelli began cultivating two hectares of land in the area called Conta.

The products of Montonale
The History
Roberto Girelli and his brothers immersed themselves in the world of the winery from a young age. In 2002 Roberto, just twenty years old, followed his first harvest and the following year launched 800 bottles under the Girelli brand, sold to friends. He enrolled in the Faculty of Viticulture and Oenology of Verona and produced the first Lugana in 2004. In 2005, they expanded the vineyards with five hectares of Turbiana and red grape varieties.
Terroir & Winery
The Lugana region enjoys a favorable climate thanks to the lake, which regulates the temperature. The winds, the Ora from the south and the Pelèr from the north, create a significant temperature range which intensifies the aromas of the grapes and preserves their health. The Montonale vineyards, positioned on the route of both, take full advantage of these advantages. The soil originates from the last glaciation, which gave life to Lake Garda. It is mainly made up of calcareous clays, which give the wines an elegant and mineral character.
