The History
In 1845, a group of Benedictine monks, coming from Muri in Switzerland, arrived in Gries on the outskirts of Bolzano, took over the abbey of the Augustinian canons and, with it, also their centuries-old winemaking activity; thus the symbiosis between convent, winery and vineyards was inaugurated which has characterized this reality up to the present day.
Terroir & Winery
The vineyards are located in the Bolzano valley and surrounding areas and on the slopes of the sunny plateau of the municipality of Appiano, in addition to the two vineyards in the historic district of Gries (Bolzano) and the Klosteranger vineyard, which borders directly on the convent. Here the Lagrein, which has always been at home, is nourished by an optimal microclimate and good soil based on quartz porphyry. In the winery, sophisticated technology and the ancient tradition enclosed within the walls of the convent are skilfully combined.
