Paolo Petrilli establishes himself in the quality market with the La Motticella winery, founded in Lucera, province of Foggia, in 1990 where tomatoes grown on site and obtained from the recovery of native strains, everywhere supplanted by industrial varieties, are transformed in an artisanal way. less good but more productive. Since 2002, Paolo has recovered the eleven hectares of vineyards existing on the property, with Nero di Troia as the prevailing variety.

The History
The winery was founded in 1988, with the aim of cultivating agricultural products by overturning industrial logic in favor of the recovery of ancient and natural varieties and methodologies. The first successful adventure is the artisanal transformation of tomatoes, with native strains that Paolo recovers in his territory of Lucera. Ten years later the productive vineyards were uprooted and replanted on the winery’s hill, on calcareous soil at 300m. The first harvest was in 2002.
Terroir & Winery
Starting from 2015, careful zoning has been carried out in the vineyard and significant changes have been made in the winery: no possibility of intervening, no selected yeasts, no cold, no oxygenation, all natural. A return to the winemaking of the Thirties.
