The products of Principiano Ferdinando

The History

Ferdinando Principiano is a barolist and wine producer in Monforte d’Alba, in the Langhe, where his family has taken care of this splendid vineyard landscape for three generations. In 1993, after obtaining a diploma in oenology, Ferdinando Principiano took the reins of the family winery, which previously supplied the grapes, with great enthusiasm and ambition.

Terroir & Winery

After a decade with a modernist and conventional approach, in 2003 Ferdinando embraced a production philosophy completely based on authenticity and tradition. This radical change led him to sell the barriques and purchase large Slavonian oak barrels, to eliminate synthetic chemicals and to give up the use of sulfur dioxide. He still presses the grapes with his feet and keeps the stalks in the must, using only indigenous yeasts and manual pumping over.
