Quintarelli is a name that immediately evokes the excellence of Italian wine and the history of Valpolicella, as well as the iconic labels written in italics.
Silvio Quintarelli, who with his brothers cultivated vineyards in Marano di Valpolicella on a sharecropping basis, founded the winery at the beginning of the twentieth century. Even then the wine was exported to the United States in barrels via the owner of the land. In 1924, they moved the winery to Cerè, Negrar, where the business was carried on by Silvio with his wife and children. Giuseppe, the youngest of the sons, took the helm in the 1950s, maintaining traditional methods while renovating the vineyards and expanding the winery, bringing the winery to global success. After Giuseppe’s death the winery is in the hands of his daughter Fiorenza.
The composition of the winery land is very varied; they range from gravelly alluvial deposits, to calcareous soils, up to the volcanic rock of the hilly areas. In addition to the traditional native varieties Corvinone, Corvina and Rondinella, Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, Croatina and the international varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc are cultivated. The white grapes Garganega, Trebbiano, Chardonnay and Sauvignon contribute to the creation of the winery’s white wine.
