Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva “Salcheto” DOCG 2018
31,30 €
“Salco” is ancient Tuscan for “Willow,” a historically significant tree in wine regions, as its branches, known as vinchi, were used to bind vines. “Salcheto” is the name of the stream that originates at the foot of Montepulciano and flows through a valley where willows once abounded.
Salcheto was founded in 1984, but the project of making wine only came to fruition in 1990 as a natural outlet for the passion for nature and the rhythms of life in the vineyard. In 1997 Michele Manelli entered the Salcheto scene, and with him and two other young partners, we began to plan new plants and investments. In Chiusi, about 13 km from the winery centre, Salcheto purchases an 11 hectare plot, Poggio Piglia, with the introduction of a Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG into the range.
Michele Manelli’s vineyards cover 30 hectares on clay and tufaceous soils, located at an altitude of over 400 meters in the areas of Montepulciano, Chiusi and Val d’Orcia. Attention to plant health and the choice of sustainable agricultural practices, such as grassing, mowing and the use of green manure, allow the cultivation of high quality grapes. In addition to the typical red wines of Montepulciano, Michele Manelli produces a line of wines called “Obvius,” made without the addition of sulphites, selected yeasts, tannins or other oenological additives.
