In 1990 Edoardo and Carla arrived in Sovana, in the Tuscan Maremma, finding a hectare of vineyard, a dilapidated house, 72 hectares of land abandoned for years; seven years later they harvested their first grapes, vinifying them in the newly renovated winery.

The History

Edoardo Ventimiglia was a documentary filmmaker in Rome, in the family business (his grandfather had been Hitchcock’s first cameraman) and Carla Benini, an agronomist and born in Trentino, dreamed of working in the countryside while she was busy in the city between the office, planes and hotels. The Maremma countryside called them in 1990 and in 1997 they harvested their first grapes.

Terroir & Winery

Sassotondo is located on the slopes of the volcanic basin of Bolsena where the presence of tuff marks the territory and naturally the soil of the vineyards; There are 12 hectares of vineyards in total, 9 of red grapes with Ciliegiolo, Sangiovese, Teroldego and Merlot, and 3 of white grapes with Trebbiano, Greco and Sauvignon. Organic field cultivation, natural winemaking with spontaneous fermentation.
