The History
For 350 years, Josef Waldner’s family has been engaged in viticulture, with roots in Marlengo. In 2005, Josef began producing successful wines and in 2007, he expanded his vision by creating the Eichenstein wine-growing area in Montefranco sopra Merano (550-600 meters above sea level), where in 2014, he built the nerve center of the estate .
Terroir & Winery
Ten thousand years ago, a volcano brought to light porphyritic quartzite and granite, elements that characterize the soil of the vineyards near Eichenstein. The Marlengo vineyards instead rest on soils of morainic origin, very rich in minerals. The northern peaks protect from the harshest winds, while in the south, the influence of the Mediterranean climate meets little resistance. The temperature range between day and night gives a pleasant freshness to the wines.
