The brothers Corrado and Marcello Fratini, who founded Tenuta Argentiera in 1999, sold in 2016 to the Austrian entrepreneur Stanislaus Turnauer, dive back into Bolgheri with a different project: Tenuta Hortense, 10 hectares of vineyards in Castagneto Carducci, almost all of Cabernet Sauvignon, where produce wines of the highest quality.
The Fratini family, which has its roots in Florentine history, accepts a new challenge after the sale of Tenuta Argentiera in 2016; in continuity with the first winemaking activity that led them to be known throughout the world, they created Tenuta Hortense. This time they make use of an excellent team led by agronomist Gianni Moscardini, supported by oenologists Eric Boissenot, consultant of important Chateaux in Bordeaux (from Lafite-Rothschild to Margaux) and Emiliano Falsini, consultant in the most prestigious Italian wine areas.
Among the various lands available in the Bolgheri DOC, the winery has identified the best for the development of the vine and the production of high quality grapes. Subsequently, thanks to the study of the soil geology, two different areas with a total surface area of 10 hectares were identified, divided by characteristics into 15 parcels. The orientation of the rows was chosen based on the orography of the terrain, the solar trend and the exposure to the main land and sea winds.
