Walter Massa can rightly be considered the father and precursor of Timorasso dei Colli Tortonesi. An independent and bold winemaker who, since 1970 at the helm of his family winery, has successfully managed to transform, reconstruct and revitalize the winemaking identity of the entire Colli Tortonesi region.

The History

Vigneti Massa is the name of the family winery, founded by the Massa predecessors way back in 1879. To have that extraordinary impetus for which the name of the winery has become famous, you have to go as far as Walter Massa who took over the business in seventies giving it new lifeblood. The winery currently owns 25 hectares of land located on the hills of Monleale, at an altitude of approximately 300 metres, where the most characteristic vines of the region are cultivated, including Barbera, Croatina, Freisa, but above all Timorasso, with over 10 hectares dedicated to this variety.

Terroir & Winery

The cornerstone of the production of the Vigneti Massa winery is represented by Timorasso, which today is known throughout Italy as a typical white wine from the Tortonesi Hills, with extraordinary aging potential. A free winemaker and against any form of bureaucracy, Walter is convinced that the quality of the wine is the result of the work in the vineyard and in the winery, not of the labels and documents. For this reason, he has chosen not to use wine denominations on the labels, relying on his consolidated reputation as an authentic wine craftsman.
