The History
Nicolas Réau is a former jazz pianist who, while still a boy, decided to shift his center of gravity and dedicate himself to viticulture; so, after studying oenology and viticulture in Montreuil and some field experiences in Bordeaux, he landed in Anjou, where he decided to buy his own domaine; Thus, Clos des Treilles was born in 2002, starting from the ancient two-hectare plot and purchasing other small plots over time.
Terroir & Winery
Clos des Treilles is located on the edge of the smallest French nature reserve and boasts a unique terroir, being on a geological fault that brings out lands 180 million years old (the Toarcian); this rich and complex subsoil has given Chenin and Cabernet Franc a perfect environment in which to live; Nicolas’ production comes from organic cultivation in the field and a natural approach in the winery, where fermentations occur spontaneously and the use of sulphites is reduced to a minimum and only at bottling for white wines, and totally excluded in red ones.
