Fattoria Dei Barbi
The Colombini family has owned lands in Montalcino since 1352, and the Fattoria dei Barbi since the end of the 18th century. The property extends over 350 hectares of land and vineyards, located in the main areas of southern Tuscany, which include Montalcino, Scansano and the Chianti area. Since 1892 the winery has been producing Brunello and was the first to export it to Europe, America and Asia.

The History
With Giovanni Colombini, born in 1906, the family found a great innovator and pioneer in the wine sector. In 1938, he created the first Italian public wine shop in the Montalcino fortress. In the 1930s, he started the first exports of Brunello to the main global markets, helping to change the history of Italian wine. In the 1960s, he transformed Fattoria dei Barbi into the first Italian winery to produce and sell large quantities of high-end wine, making it accessible to the general public. After his death in 1976, Fattoria dei Barbi was managed by his daughter Francesca and then by his nephew Stefano.
Terroir & Winery
The vines are mainly planted on soils rich in marl, sand and clay, between 250 and 500 meters above sea level. In the winery, cutting-edge technologies in the sector are used, while maintaining the consolidated tradition of Montalcino. Brunellos are vinified in stainless steel tanks and then subjected to a long aging process in oak barrels of various sizes.
