Frescobaldi

Around the year 1000, the Frescobaldi family moved from Val di Pesa to Florence, establishing itself in the following centuries among the most powerful Guelph families thanks to banking activities and textile trade. Already in 1300, with Berto de’ Frescobaldi, they started the production of wine, which spread to European markets following their trade routes. Between the 15th and 16th centuries, the family reached the height of its wealth, expanding its business as far as Constantinople and Damascus. The modern turning point came in the 1960s, when Vittorio Frescobaldi decided to specialize in viticulture. Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi Spa was born in 1980, transformed into a limited liability company in 2006. Today, the company, led by the five brothers Leonardo, Dino, Vittorio, Maria and Ferdinando, owns the largest extension of vineyards in Tuscany, with 1,200 hectares and several estates, including Castello Nipozzano, Castello Pomino, Tenuta Luce and others.
