La Scolca

The name of the plot of the La Scolca estate derived from the ancient toponym “Sfurca” or “Looking away”; the farmhouse that stood there had in fact been a lookout post in the past. This significant name also symbolizes the attitude of Chiara Soldati, the fourth generation, who, firmly rooted in the tradition of her territory, does not fail to “look far ahead” to the future.

The History

The La Scolca estate is one of the historic estates in the Gavi area. It was purchased in 1919 by Giorgio Soldati’s great-grandfather, who was a great interpreter of Gavi DOCG. Today his daughter Chiara Soldati runs the winery, who tenaciously safeguards the family’s wine heritage, in a skilful balance between tradition and innovation.

Terroir & Winery

Gavi wine, made from Cortese grapes, originated in La Scolca and over the course of over a century, it has become a point of reference for style. The vineyards extend in the most fortunate positions of Rovereto and Gavi. The dry sea air, the abundant sunshine from dawn to dusk, the freshness and the short dews create an ideal atmosphere that gives the wine an aristocratic, mineral, intense and lasting personality, with a timeless elegance. Rovereto di Gavi can undoubtedly be considered the “Grand Cru of Cortese”.
