Papiano 2021
24,60 €
Villa Papiano tells of four brothers who courageously got involved and gave life to a project to renovate old vineyards in a naturalistic oasis on the Apennines in Modigliana, Emilia-Romagna.
The history of Villa Papiano has roots in 1400 when these lands governed by Papiano, lieutenant of the Medici, became a strategic place for territorial control and the development of agriculture. The Villa Papiano wine project began in 2001, when the old 1960 vineyards, cultivated on terraces, were restored and served as a model for creating wines that faithfully reflected the territory they belong to.
The vineyards extend on the southern slope of Mount Chioda between 530 and 450 m above sea level overlooking the Ibola stream which marks the least inhabited and closed valley of Modigliana. Sangiovese, Trebbiano, Albana and Sauvignon are grown and, in some of the older vineyards, Sangiovese is bred together with other ancient varieties, such as Centesimino, Negretto and Balsamina. The vines are trained as saplings and low espaliers to exploit the heat of the earth.
