From an abandoned piece of land and turned into a vineyard in 2003, Il Verro (which takes its name from the male wild boar locally called ‘u verru) consists of 15 hectares of property, 5 of which are planted with four native vines: Casavecchia, Pallagrello Bianco, Pallagrello Nero and Coda di Pecora, which grow on volcanic soils, with the presence of lava material arrived from the adjacent extinct volcano of Roccamonfina.
A friendship born at school in the 1960s led Cesare Avenia and 4 other friends to transform a gentle slope, invaded by brambles, into a estate that produces organic wine and oil in 2003. An initiative which then found its maximum expression in the discovery, recognition and protection of Coda di Pecora, a vine of which they are the only producers.
The vineyards, exposed to the South/South-East and kissed by the continental climate, benefit from large temperature variations between day and night. A rich presence of Mediterranean scrub made up of centuries-old olive trees, walnut trees, cherry trees and a personal vegetable garden, frame the vineyards.
